Certified sustainability in the ISCC PLUS OLIVE chain

The Sabino Leone company has invested for the future. Among the few Iscc plus certified agricultural/oil companies, a certification that recognizes compliance and transparency in terms of sustainability and traceability of raw materials, aims to support the transition towards a circular economy and a bioeconomy by contributing to the implementation of sustainable production from an environmental, social and economic point of view. To achieve this, it has invested in the application of guidelines such as LIFE15 OLIVE4CLIMATE and LIFE + CENTI.OLI. MED who implement practices in order to mitigate climate change and to safeguard and protect the biodiversity that lives in our areas. The company has invested heavily in environmental sustainability: all production is integrated or certified organic, the crops are managed with sustainable agronomic techniques based on careful analysis of the soils and production areas in order to protect biodiversity and increase the fertility of the soils. It has also invested in the recovery of by-products, making the company gas free, all the hot water produced in the company is produced using olive pit boilers. It has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by renewing all company vehicles in Stage V, a process that is integrated into the European Farm to Fork strategy, one of the pillars of the Green Deal which aims at climate neutrality in Europe by 2050. At the center of the project is ethical and social sustainability: Sabino Leone places the "person" at the center of his path of sustainable development, therefore, the whole supply chain ensures respect for the fundamental rights of each worker and his physical, cultural and morals, valuing diversity and promoting inclusion. The participation of all local community actors (businesses, citizens, representatives, management bodies, public institutions) is encouraged in order to involve them in this sustainable development project, also through the creation of information, awareness-raising and promotion initiatives. The role of the producer is central to a rural development process. From the Iscc plus project a second "TERRECRUSTE" brand was born where the "Crusta" and the type of company land, hence 3 extra virgin olive oils destined for large-scale distribution, including an IGP and a DOP, to ensure that all citizens are sensitized to sustainable high quality.
