The two producer organisations OP Bivalvia and OP i Fasolari operate in the Maritime Compartment of Venice and make sustainability their trademark. Guaranteeing the quality and safety of the product is not enough, for this reason the two P.O. implement actions in favour of fishing sustainability with the aim of reducing environmental impact, providing training and assistance to producers. Dr. Oppia retraces the actions implemented to minimise the impact on the habitat and the marine ecosystem, the effective and responsible management of fishing at sea and the achievement of MSC certification for clam fishing (first case for a fishery in the Mediterranean) and the achievement of organic certification for the Caorle clam (the only case in Italy).
