New directive for plastic bottles: they must contain at least 25% recycled material

Starting January 1, 2025, a new European Union directive requires that all plastic bottles, up to a capacity of three liters, contain at least 25% recycled material. This value will increase to 30% by 2030.

This measure is part of a broader initiative to reduce its environmental impact and promote a circular economy. The new bottles may have a darker or yellowish color but this will not affect the quality of the content.

All producers, large and small, will have to adapt to these new regulations, encouraging separate waste collection and the use of recycled materials.

The directive is part of a broader effort to limit the presence of single-use plastic products in the environment and promote sustainable practices. By 2029, the EU aims to achieve a 90% collection of bottles for recycling.
